Gwadar Port Authority achieved another significant operational milestone with the successful berthing and handling of heavy cargo vessel MV BI JIA SHAN at Gwadar Port on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
The vessel, originating from Hong Kong/China and commanded by Captain LI HAN (Chinese National), arrived carrying approximately 53,277.42 Metric Tons of PRIME Steel Billets, comprising around 20,669 pieces.
Importantly, Gwadar Port successfully handled this large vessel with an approximate 12.8-meter draft, demonstrating the operational effectiveness and capability of Gwadar Port’s deep-draft navigation channel and modern port infrastructure. The safe and efficient berthing and cargo handling operation marks another milestone for Gwadar Port in accommodating large deep-sea commercial vessels.
MV BI JIA SHAN had sailed from Bayuquan Port, China, and was originally destined for Port Sohar, Oman. However, the vessel diverted its route to Gwadar Port for transshipment operations, reflecting the increasing confidence of international shipping lines and traders in Gwadar Port’s strategic location, operational readiness, and growing role as a regional transshipment hub.
The successful handling of this heavy transshipment consignment further reinforces Gwadar Port’s emerging importance in regional and international maritime trade, particularly in facilitating cargo connectivity between China, the Middle East, Central Asia, and other regional markets.
Officials of Gwadar Port Authority stated that the continuous arrival of large international cargo vessels is a clear indication of Gwadar Port’s expanding maritime potential and competitive advantage as a deep-sea port capable of handling high-volume and deep-draft vessels efficiently.
Gwadar Port Authority remains committed to providing safe, efficient, and cost-effective port services while promoting Pakistan’s role in regional connectivity and global supply chains.
