Currently, Pakistan has two main operating international deep-sea ports: Karachi Port and Port Qasim. During the coming years, their capacity expansion programs are unlikely to keep pace with the expected growth in demand, resulting in a need for a third port to fill the gap.
In particular, Karachi Port has significant physical limitations and will not be able to grow at the same speed as the national growth in demand over the coming decades. These limitations result mainly from its location, which is within the city of Karachi itself, which has seen very rapid growth over the past years.
Terminal is operational: new cranes, container scanner, additional storage area.
GFZ has two portions: Southern Initial/Pilot Zone Northern Main Zone with different b-zones
A number of port related businesses have been started in port
Gwadar Port Authority, Pakistan has planned to construct East Bay Expressway.at Gwadar. The Expressway passing along the East Bay will connect the Gwadar Port with the Makran Coastal Highway.
This CPEC project is a grant from Chinese Government to improve and create technical and skilled manpower from local population of Gwadar and surrounding areas.
GPA will provide sea-frontage land and some backup area for the terminal to Port Developer / Operator , based on Landlord model.
Gwadar Port is emerging as the third port of Pakistan - Karachi and Port Qasim being the other two. Gwadar borders on Arabian Sea and lies in the Balochistan Province. Gwadar Port is located at the mouth of Persian Gulf and outside the Straits of Hormuz. It is near to the key shipping routes used by the mainline vessels in the region with connections to Africa, Asia and Europe and enjoys high commercial and strategic significance.
